The ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ (JRF) exams are organized in Life Social Science by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi. ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ (JRF) exam is a national level entrance examination. ‘Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research’ (PGIMER), Chandigarh associated the ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ (JRF) exam for the candidates. This exam is to find the eligible candidates, who seek for admission for the JRF program The candidates after they qualify the JRF scholarship exam they will be awarded 150 scholarships.

Through this entrance exams candidates can get admission in Medical College /Hospital /University /National Laboratory /Institution of Higher Learning and Research to pursue the PhD/ Research Programme in the field of Biomedical Sciences with emphasis on Life Sciences such as Microbiology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Human Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Immunology, Pharmacology, Zoology, Botany, Environmental Sciences and Veterinary Sciences etc.

Application form of ICMR JRF will be available from April and the Last date of submission of ICMR JRF Application Form is on May. Candidates have to full application before the due dates candidate’s who submitted after the due date candidates application will not be accepted. The application form is available in online mode.

Candidates must know the full eligibility criteria of ICMR JRF. Candidate sometime fails to know criteria of ICMR JRF that affect them at the time of taking admission. Candidates should know Nationality, Qualification criteria, Age criteria and Minimum marks etc.

Applying candidates should read all detail first and then fill the form and check eligibility criteria whether you are eligible to apply or not. All Indian citizens will be eligible to apply for the ICMR JRF exams. Candidates who are willing to apply must have a Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science or Post Graduate level Professional Degree in the relevant stream.

The upper age limit to apply for the ICMR JRF is 28 years. Applying candidates, who belong to the reserved category such as SC and ST, will be given age relaxation of 5 years. Candidates, who are physically handicapped, will be given age relaxation of minimum 5 years. The candidates of OBC category will be given 3 years age relaxation in the upper age.

Following criteria are given below:

Qualifying Criteria: The candidates should score at least 55% marks (50% marks for SC/ST/OBC/PH Candidates) in both the sections of the paper in order to get finally selected in the concerned entrance exam.

Eligibility for ICMR Exam: The candidates in order to appear in the ICMR JRF Exam should be holding either of the following: Master of Arts or Master of Science degree in the Life Sciences/ Social Sciences subjects. The minimum percentage of marks required for this purpose is 55% (50% marks for SC/ST Candidates) respectively. The candidates who are appearing for the final exam of their qualifying degree can also apply for the concerned exam.

Qualifying Age: The age of all the applicants should not be exceeding 28 years for the JRF Exam. A relaxation of five years will be given to the SC/ST candidates and 3 years for the OBC candidates respectively.

Candidates are provided exams dates, exams pattern and syllabus etc. Details are provided so, candidates will get familiar with it this will helps in studies. In exams, Candidates will be asked a question from the topics of a syllabus. The syllabus has been divided into three sections of study such as Life Science, Aptitude Knowledge, and Social Science.

A candidate of JRF Entrance Exam is divided into 1st paper & 2nd paper. In the 1st paper, candidates will be asked 50 questions and paper is of 50 marks. 2nd paper is of 150 marks in which 100 questions will be asked from Life Science and 100 questions will be asked from Social Science.

The JRF Entrance Exam is a national level exam held in collaboration with PGIMER Chandigarh. The entrance exam is an objective type paper containing multiple choice questions on the following sections of the examination.

2. Section II: Subject Specific Section:

  • This section is composed of two parts namely Life Sciences and Social Sciences respectively.
  • The candidates can choose questions from any subject as per their subject knowledge.
